The Time is Meow to Vote For Limberbutt McCubbins to Be Our Next President!

Limberbutt McCubbins, 6, a rescue cat from Louisville, Kentucky, who loves eating Cheetos and sleeping is trying to secure the Democratic nomination and I for one am going to vote for him!

How did his campaign begin, you ask? It all started when 17-year-old high school student Isaac Weiss, thought it would be hilarious to have the pet of his friend (and human mom of Limberbutt's), Emilee McCubbins, take a shot at the presidency.

Last spring, Weiss created "The Committee for the Installation of Limberbutt" on the Federal Election Commission's website, officially registering Limberbutt as a Demo-cat.

Yes, Limberbutt is only 6 years old, which would disqualify him for the presidency. But if we count Limberbutt's age in cat years, he'd be about 39, making him is constitutionally eligible.

His team has been having a lot of fun promoting Limberbutt for the presidency by helping him create a website, a Facebook page which has 11,632 likes, clever memes, seven platforms (one of the reasons why cats are especially uniting with him is because he wants catnip to be legalized), and lots of campaign gear including coffee mugs, t-shirts, bags, throw blankets, water bottles, windshield wiper tags, magnets, and so much more!

With so many candidates to choose from I think "The Time is Meow" to give Limberbutt a chance! Don't "fur-get" to vote, everyone!

Daisy Loves Dupont's Service Center!

Yesterday Daisy and I had such a hectic dog walking schedule that I did not have time to drop her off at home before heading to my car inspection appointment at Dupont's Service Center so I brought her along with the full expectation that we would have to wait outdoors for the hour but as soon as the secretary saw Daisy she said, "Please bring her inside! We love furry friends and she's welcome anytime!"

I've always loved that Daisy appreciates the ever-changing settings that go hand-in-hand with her life as a professional pet sitter's dog walking assistant so I wasn't surprised that she made herself comfortable in the waiting room so quickly.

Nor was I surprised that she seemed to know where my car was and that she needed to make sure the technicians were doing their very best with it!

And I wasn't surprised that she was reluctant to leave because she loved the staff and the customers who treated her like royalty!

Swiss Cats, Liberty and Destiny, Come Out of Hiding!

For eight days I had the privilege of spending time with these beautiful girls who arrived here from Switzerland with passports to prove it!

When their mom introduced them to me they were hiding under the bed and was informed that they would never come out to greet me because they only like HER and NO ONE ELSE and I believed her until the seventh day when I found Destiny relaxing on one of her daughter's beds!

And if that wasn't exciting enough I was delighted that she chose to follow me to the kitchen hoping for a snack or two!

And on the fifth and seventh day I found Liberty spying on me from the top of the stairs just as I was about to leave so naturally I decided to stay a little while longer

so I could get up close and purr-sonal with her (and Destiny too)!

It goes without saying that forming friendships with cats, especially the reluctant ones, is a rewarding experience that makes me happy that I chose pet sitting as a profession!

If you are considering going on vacation but are concerned that your cat(s) won't do well with a stranger in the house please contact me! Your cat(s) may decide to come out of hiding and gain a new friend!

What I Learned About Savannah and Bengal Cats

What a treat it was to pay a visit to Carrie (the Savannah kitten who is front and center in the picture above, and her older Bengal sister, Joy) last week!

While spending the week with these beauties I fantasized about adopting an exotic cat but once I learned that Bengals cost between $400 to $700 and Savannahs range in price from $1,000 to $22,000 I quickly changed my mind!

Of the many reasons why I loved spending time with these beautiful creatures was because they are intelligent, curious, and agile! Joy, for exampleloved to play fetch for long stretches at a time. In the picture above she is watching us throw a ball and seems to be working out a game plan to retrieve it.

Joy also loves to open doors, cupboards, and windows and because of that her owner had to install child safety locks to stop her from getting into anything that would cause her harm.

Carrie has dog-like characteristics just like her "sister" does and will come when we called to play a game of fetch and she is very comfortable walking on-leash!

Another great thing about Savannah and Bengal cats is that they are capable of feeding themselves by turning the wheel of a gumball machine!

Another astounding thing about Bengal and Savannah cats is that they are naturals at learning how to use the toilet as a litter box! Can you imagine walking into your bathroom to see your cat on your toilet seat?

As a professional pet sitter of over ten years I feel privileged to get to know so many interesting pets and these girls are no exception!

Izzy's Snack Choices Are PURRfectly Amusing!

Have you ever met a cat who insists on snacking on exactly 1/8 of a teaspoon of Smart Balance butter or

feta cheese every morning?

I can tell you that I've never met a cat with such discriminating tastes until Izzy, the Bengal, joined the Teacher's Pet Sitting Service family and I am purrfectly amused. Aren't you?

My Unexpected Final Visit With Sweet Olivia

It is with great sadness and shock that I share the news that on Tuesday, February 2, at approximately 6:00 pm I found Olivia lying on the kitchen floor (as seen above) soaked in urine and meowing feebly without the strength to stand or raise her head to look in my direction. I desperately opened a  can of wet food and poured her favorite broth on top in the hopes that she would become energized enough to eat but all she could do was pathetically wave her leg above the bowl and it was then that I knew she was not going to survive the night.

I panicked because her owners were on an overseas vacation and wouldn't return until the end of the month so breaking the news to them wasn't going to be easy.

Olivia's mom and I discussed what the plan would be should I arrive and find that she had passed away but we never talked about the possibility of finding her taking her last breaths but I instinctively knew that I had to make that dreaded phone call to let her know that her almost 20 year old baby was deathly ill and needed to be taken to the emergency vet to be put to sleep.

As soon my conversation with her mom was over I tried to put Olivia in her carrier but her body had stiffened making it impossible to fit her inside so I bundled her in a blanket and lay her beside me as I drove to the vet with one hand on the wheel and one on her cold body. This sweet old gal who normally doesn't like car rides or veterinarians allowed me to carry her without much of a fight. I had never been with an animal while the injection was made but I felt I should be there for her even though we'd only known each other for six months. We had spent several weeks at a time together over a period of six months where she awarded me with her friendship which surprised me because she was not one to trust strangers very readily. There was no way that I was going to let my discomfort of watching a needle end her life get in the way of being there for her.

Right before she passed away at 8:45 pm I stroked her cheek and told her that I loved her and that she wouldn't be suffering any longer and, of course, I told her that her mom and dad wished they could've been with her during these final moments.

Rest in peace, Olivia! You will forever be missed!
