Riding In Cars With Dogs

Raise your hand if you've ever watched the movie, Riding in Cars With Boys. Anyone? Anyone? If you haven't watched it then I recommend you rent the movie this very instant so you can understand what I am about to say and it is this....if I were lucky enough to have a movie made about my life it should be called "Riding in Cars With Dogs" because car rides with dogs pretty much sums up my life.

For some reason, I get a lot of pleasure when dogs hop aboard The April Taxi and of course a photography session is always in order and the dogs never tire (no pun intended) of flashing their best smiles for the camera. Take Daisy and her dalmatian mix pal, Shadow, who were wide eyed and bushy tailed to be on their way to the dog park. I think the thrill of a car ride was a close second to a visit to the dog park, if I'm not mistaken.

Every dog has it's own personality and for that reason they all react differently to car rides. Take a look at Rocky, my precious Cairn Terrier friend, who preferred to give a standing ovation to every piece of scenery in his neighborhood.

And then there's Moka, my German Short Haired Pointer friend whose smile was at its all-time widest when I invited her to go for a spin to the nearby park

And then there's my dachshund mix pal, Monkey, who preferred to be in the driver's seat

but ladylike Jesse always let her pet sitter have control of the wheel

And then there was Fenway, a pug who had some serious road-tripping on her mind

And last but not least , there's Miss Sophie who just pays her cab fee and then smiles all the way to her chosen destination. Now there's a dog who knows her good looks can buy happiness!

So, I wonder, dear doggy friends, what do you act like or look like while you ride in the car with your owners/parents? Are you smiling? Sleeping in the back seat? Looking out the window? Leaning forward? I'd love to know what your owner's "Riding In Cars With Dogs" experience looks like. Please tell me that I am not the only one who loves to snap pictures of canines while they ride the gravy train!

  1. We adore driving in the car. We sit in our booster seats and either look out the window, do gasers or sleep and snore. Its the best

  4. I prefer to drive, myself. I hardly ever get to, though. Officially I sit in the back and especially now that Franklin is usually in the car now. That's the theory. The reality is somewhat different.

    lotsa licks, Lola

  5. Look at your sweet pictures! They're all adorable. Wouldn't you love to know what they think a car is?

If it's a longer ride, Alice picks up that something's afoot and gets anxious about if we'll bring her or not. On those occasions, she passes out the second she gets in the car. If it's a shorter jaunt, she stares intently out the windshield, like she's willing us to go in a certain direction.

And don't worry, I always take pictures of Alice riding in the car. She just looks so cute and snuggly.

  7. Well, I like to get in the car or van and lay down on the back seat where I can see everything that's going on. I travel quite a lot, and I always love to go! Life is the journey as well as the destination!

  8. Our dogs Holly and May joined our family for a car ride across Canada this summer. They loved it lots! They liked getting out and exploring different places. They were expert road hammers! They loved to lay down in the back seat, cuddled up with the children.

  13. I love to ride in my mastiff mobile and typically lay upon my Mango bed because I can see out the window just fine from a recumbent position. However, I HATE it when the labradork rides with me. Momma says there is plenty of room for both of us, but I don't agree and usually keep him pinned in a corner.

  19. Unfortunately, I had to put my dog to sleep about 7 years ago. But, I had her when I lived at home with my mom. She LOVED to go for a ride in the car. Many times, my mom would ask me if I wanted to go for a ride to the mall. My dog, hearing the word “ride” would get so excited, run to her leash and jump around, as if she was invited. We had to take to spelling in front of her.
