You don’t even have to know who
Fiona Apple
is to well up over the letter she wrote to fans about postponing her
tour to be with her dying dog, a 14-year-old pitbull named Janet. Her
dog is apparently dying of a tumor that she’s had for 2 years, and–if
you’re not already reaching for Kleenex–she was a rescue dog who was
used as a bait animal in dog fight training before Fiona Apple adopted
her.

Apple posted a heartfelt letter to her fans on Facebook last night,
explaining that Janet’s current health conditions are too serious for
her to start the South American leg of her tour. Her situation is
heartbreaking, but for anyone spending time with loved ones this
Thanksgiving (human or animal), her letter is a happy reminder of how
lucky we are to have the time and choice to be with each other this
holiday:

You don't even have to know who musician, Fiona Apple, is to be touched by a letter she wrote to fans on Tuesday explaining why she needed to postpone her South American tour in order to be with her 14 year old pit bull, Janet, who is dying. Janet suffers from Addison’s disease and has a tumor in her chest.
In a four-page letter
to fans Apple explained her close relationship with Janet as, "She
slept in bed with me, her head on the pillow," Apple explained, "and she accepted my
hysterical, tearful face into her chest, with her paws around me, every
time I was heartbroken, or spirit-broken, or just lost, and as years
went by, she let me take the role of her child, as I fell asleep, with
her chin resting above my head."
“I just can’t leave her now, please understand. If I go away again, I’m
afraid she’ll die and I won’t have the honor of singing her to sleep, of
escorting her out.”
Even before reading Apple's letter to her fans I knew that I would devote my time to my pets during their last days and I'm sure all of you would as well!
Hope you had a great day yesterday. Have a fabulous Friday.

What a touching and beautiful tribute Fiona Apple has written, and what devotion and gratitude she has and is showing for her beloved Janet--I wish them all the best and many more days together. What a wonderful world it would be if all of 'us' felt that same way about our four legged family members.
ReplyDeleteThis is just so touching and I don't blame her one bit for wanting to be there as Janet was there for her all those years. It is the least we can do for our fur babies!
