Who knew that participating in Alex the cat's "Hey, Want A Piece Of Me?" giveaway would encourage a first grade boy named Lenox focus on his lessons in class? And who knew that a simple yet silly bumper sticker would make a sometimes grumpy/sometimes bored student giggle and smile?
Just like any child who is sometimes bored and sometimes grumpy, Lenox finds ways to amuse himself and one of the "amusing" things he did was to tear his name tag to shreds yesterday morning. When I found that out, I knew Alex the cat would be the perfect replacement: not only was he indestructible but he would also be the purrfect spy!
Before Alex found his true calling as a spy he was living on the cover of my tutoring notebook which turned him into a sometimes bored/sometimes grumpy cat but I didn't know where to place him until Lenox came along.
So I sacrificed my prized bumper sticker this afternoon in the hopes that Lenox will feel especially loved and watched over tomorrow and all through the year! I hope Lenox smiles as soon as he sees his constant friend tomorrow morning!
What do think his reaction will be? Do you think he'll be on his best behavior from now on?
What a great idea! Sometimes you need to try different things to reach a child....nice job.
ReplyDeleteOh April.... Alex is so happy to have made a new friend in Lenox, and is so honored that he brightened that little boy's day...When Alex and I made these stickers, we did it in fun, as a spoof. Never, in our wildest dreams did we think any good would come from them. This story makes both Alex and my heart smile.... I wish I could see Lenox's face tomorrow when he sees the sticker, and reads your sweet note. Lenox is a very lucky guy, to have such a wonderful and caring teacher like you. Alex sends you and Lenox big hugs!
