An Old Cat And A Young Boy Form A Purrfect Friendship

When I first met six year old Lenox five months ago I felt I was looking in a mirror; he was a reflection of my first grade self - inquisitive, carefree, friendly, and unique. It was love at first sight and I think he felt it too but those feelings didn't manifest completely until

Lenox found his new "name tag" on his desk one morning. My note of explanation stated that since I couldn't be with him all day that his new pal, Alex, would take my place all in the hopes that Lenox would be on his best behavior.

In case you haven't heard, Alex is a child psychologist and a wanna-be Dr. Phil in the cat community so he sent a Build A Sign bumper sticker to me in the hopes that I would give it to Lenox fur keeps. See, Lenox is a wonderful boy and all but he's not been so wonderful with his desk name tag. After sending several name tags to the trash, Alex felt it was time for a cat-tur-vention with (you guessed it) Alex at the helm.

As it turned out, Alex was the purrfect psychologist and wanna-be Dr. Phil for young Lenox and (applause, applause) the "Beware...I am watching you" bumper sticker is still intact! And do you know what else? Lenox has been an exemplary little first grader ever since!

You would think that Alex would wipe his paws and furget about his successful cat-tur-vention and about Lucas but that's not his style. Instead, Alex continues to send weekly notes to his favorite first grader and Lenox is always happy to correspond!

Who would have thought that a cat (and his amazing human, Hilary from Feeling Beachie) would become a first grader's watchful friend fur life? I think it is amazing how Alex, Hilary, Lenox, and myself have made such impact on each others lives all because of Blogville!

Follow Friday 4 Fill-In Fun

Each Friday, Hilary from Feeling Beachie will list four statements with a blank for blog hoppers to fill in on your own blogs. If you want to join the fun and come up with four fill in’s of your own, please email them to her at feelingbeachie(AT)gmail(DOT)com If she uses them, she will add you as co-host to the hop!

This week’s fill-ins from Hilary:

1) I can’t help it, but every time I go to the grocery store, I ________.

2) No one believes I like ______ as much as I do.

3) My ____ is my least favorite part of my physical appearance.

4) The first time I cooked for my significant other, I made ___________.

And my responses to them are:

1) every time I go to the grocery store, I leaf through People magazine while my fiance' and I are in the check-out aisle and as a result I am in tune with the goings on in Hollywood while Amos is in tune with the price of the groceries!

2) No one believes I like going to the gym as much I do. I've been a gym rat for approximately 20 years and it has helped me relax, vent, and feel better after a long day at work.

3) My _______ is the least favorite part of my physical appearance.

I do not like the upper part of my nose because a scar resides there. If it didn't turn red when I'm cold or overheated I would probably deal with it much better than I do. The fact that I fell face forward onto a rock in a calm stream while hiking only adds to my shame of having a permanent scar. Amen.

4) The first time I cooked for my significant other, I made ___________.

I cooked chicken pot pie as a birthday gift for my fiance'and all went well until I took my eyes off the timer and as a result part of the pie was burnt. Amos was remarkably understanding of my plight and he ate the entire serving without complaints. Several years later, however, Amos commented that my effort was extremely heartfelt but the meal was not as yummy as I had hoped it would be but he applauded my effort!

What are your answers to these 4 questions? We all want to know so please pawticipate!

Alex The Cat Goes To School

Who knew that participating in Alex the cat's "Hey, Want A Piece Of Me?" giveaway would encourage a first grade boy named Lenox focus on his lessons in class? And who knew that a simple yet silly bumper sticker would make a sometimes grumpy/sometimes bored student giggle and smile?

Just like any child who is sometimes bored and sometimes grumpy, Lenox finds ways to amuse himself and one of the "amusing" things he did was to tear his name tag to shreds yesterday morning.  When I found that out, I knew Alex the cat would be the perfect replacement: not only was he indestructible but he would also be the purrfect spy

Before Alex found his true calling as a spy he was living on the cover of my tutoring notebook which turned him into a sometimes bored/sometimes grumpy cat but I didn't know where to place him until Lenox came along.

When I introduced Lenox to Alex it was love at first sight! Silly Lenox immediately began moving Alex from one side of the table to the other to see if Alex's eyes would follow him and when he passed the test Lenox said,"Alex is really watching me!"

So I sacrificed my prized bumper sticker this afternoon in the hopes that Lenox will feel especially loved and watched over tomorrow and all through the year! I hope Lenox smiles as soon as he sees his constant  friend tomorrow morning!

What do think his reaction will be? Do you think he'll be on his best behavior from now on?
