In honor of Martin Luther King Jr Day, I took it upon myself to do some research to find out what he had to say about animals and found these powerful quotes:
“Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society's punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.”
"One day the absurdity of the almost universal human belief in the slavery of other animals will be palpable. We shall then have discovered our souls and become worthier of sharing this planet with them."
Upon further research, I discovered that the above quotes had been fabricated by animal rights activist groups to promote their cause so I was happy to later find the following quotes that can apply to pets and their owners:
On the unconditional love of dogs:
“Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into friend.”
"Let no man pull you low enough to hate him."
On animal rights:
"A right delayed is a right denied. That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing."
On pet illness and loss:
“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”
“The quality, not the longevity, of one's life is what is important.”
It is my hope that Martin Luther King Jr's quotes and tremendous acts of bravery stay in your mind as you go about your day.
Your first quote is on my blog today and has been there the past two years on MLK Day, it's one of my favorites catchatwithcarenandcody
