Say Goodbye to Standard Buckle Collars and Hello to Martingale No-Slip Collars!

Many of my clients wonder what type of collar I recommend and my answer has always been a Martingale/No-Slip Collar/Combo Collar (as seen on my dog, Daisy) which are escape-proof collars that tighten as dogs pull.

If a dog gets spooked and tries to back out of the collar, it will tighten, and the dog will stay securely with the dog’s handler.

Many people love to buy the standard buckle collars because they are easy to find, inexpensive, and fashionable but the problem with these collars is

that many owners adjust the collars too loosely around their dog's neck as shown in the picture above), and then he/she is in danger of running into the street and be at risk of becoming injured, lost, or killed. The rule of thumb is that if you can effortlessly pull the collar over your dog's head it is too loose!

Conversely, when owners do tighten the standard buckle collar THE RISK IS STILL A FACTOR because these collars tend to stretch out within a few days due to the type of fabric (the biggest problem collar is nylon because they are slippery) and general wear and tear!

The solution to this problem is to throw them out (Yes, I said it!) and purchase a Martingale (also known as Combo Collars by the popular Lupine company) collar and then use the illustration above to ensure that it fits properly. The end result is that you will be walking your dog(s) with more control and peace of mind!

If you would like to give these amazing Martingale collars a try they are reasonably priced at LupinePet and at Collargirl.com!

I hope this post is a great help and that you will pass it along to anyone who may need this friendly advice!
