Couch Time With Dolly Pepper

It has been three days since I last saw Dolly Pepper and I miss her terribly. After all, I visited her twice a day for two hours at a time for 15 days and during that time we became very close friends. So close, in fact, that she rewarded me with a chance to sit by her side on her couch on several occasions. Sitting on the couch with Dolly was a reward because because from the first time we met she protected her couch with a snarl or a bark making it clear that I was not welcome and I understood that because I was a stranger who was not yet to be trusted.

I can't blame her for her mistrust because her life prior to moving to New Hampshire four years ago was tragic: she was found on an abandoned farm in Georgia emaciated, lonely, and confused. On top of that, she suffered from a hip injury and the only way to relieve the pain was to amputate her back left leg.

Fortunately, Dolly's owners looked at her through the bars of the shelter and recognized a soul who needed to rescued.

So based on her previous experience with abandonment I was thrilled that I earned her trust, her outstretched paw,

and her friendship because

it certainly was worth waiting for!
