Accident Prone Is My Middle Name

In case you were wondering, my middle name is Lynn but I am certain my parents chose the wrong middle name for me and I am sure you can see why. For a clumsy, devil-may-care gal like me, I deserve not one but two middle names and those names should have been "Accident Prone". Say it with me. April Accident Prone McLeod. Don't those four names sound good together?

Now that we've gotten the introductions out of the way let me tell you why how I wound up in the emergency room one year ago and let me tell you why I had sheepish grin on my face, despite the circumstances.

Because I had blood streaming down my face when the accident occured I had to revisit the scene of the crime many months afterward. This photo depicts what should have happened on September 7th, 2009, but sadly that was not the case.

On our rare day off, Amos and I decided to go for a hike with our coonhound, Daisy, and her foxhound friend, Jesse. All was going well until.....

Jesse jumped into the water

and then Daisy followed right after her. Since Amos and I were determined to turn Daisy and Jesse into bosom buddies we were thrilled that they were finally bonding in a pool of water but I didn't need to celebrate with them, for goodness sakes.  Not listening to Amos' warning about the slipperiness of the rocks, I held onto Jesse's leash and hopped from rock to rock until.....

I slipped into the water and my nose suffered the consequences. When my nose hit the rock I happened to be wearing wire framed aviator sunglasses and that was a poor combination for my nose. As a result, part of the skin on my nose was hanging off my face as we exited the trail. Hikers probably wondered why I had a t-shirt held tightly against my nose but the people who wondered the most about my situation were the nurses in the emergency room. Let's just say that the nurses suspected Amos of domestic violence, poor guy, and I can't say as I blamed them! I did look pretty ruff! Hee-Hee!

  3. Ouch!!!! We should make a list of injuries caused by or contributed to by our pets. Cuts, scrapes, broken bones, it would be a long list.

  4. I've just recently gotten the cast off of my arm from a similar tumble into the creek we walk near. The incision is healing nicely from where they put in the steel plate to mend my broken bones! And the dogs had nothing to do with my fall. It was just my natural grace!!

  5. I was thinking you had tripped over a pet...happens here ALL the time at my house!

I'm assuming you healed up fine?

  6. Ouch!
Don't feel bad, I'm a bit of a clutz myself. Thankfully, I major in the minor injuries - ones that don't require a trip to the doctor. (Although I can wander down a ten foot wide hallway and at some point run into a wall!)

  18. Hello friends!
I've loved reading your comments and I thought I'd fill you in on part 2 of the story since I've had so many questions.
The stitches were ugly and they stayed there for about a week until it was safe for the Emergency Drs. to take them out. During that week, I stayed in hiding because I looked TERRIBLE. Fortunately, my dog and cat clients didn't complain about my horrendous looking nose and they didn't make fun of me at all, thank goodness. Four legged friends are the best! Oh, Amos did his best to NOT laugh at me or poke fun of me during the healing process.
To this day, I still rub Vitamin E oil on my nose; the scar is barely visible but I notice it, of course. One year later and I still see a tiny bump....maybe I should view it as a tattoo? Hee-Hee!

I went over to that site where they did the interview about Buster and it was wonderful. I asked to have one done on Mewmew. Her link doesn't work on Facebook but I left her a comment. Thanks for letting me know about that.

  35. Owie! My mom says she did the same thing while walking a dog in a creek except she scraped her shin on a log and then immediately fell on a rock on the scraped spot and that was in 1992 and there is still a dent in her shin! Hope all the hurts have gone out of your nosie!
