Julie and Julia: My Blogging Inspiration

Hello Friends!

I thought I would resurrect my very first blog which was written on January 18, 2010, because I only had a handful of interested readers at the time and now that I have attracted nearly 80 followers, I thought you would like know why I started writing about my life as a professional pet sitter.

It was not easy to write my first blog entry because I am an avid reader, an English major, and a perfectionist but I somehow managed to hit the "Publish Post" button and I waited eagerly for someone to make a comment.

The comments didn't arrive until I posted In Praise of Funky Lawn Ornaments and was awarded with 3 comments; one from me, my fiance', and a very supportive pet sitting client, Christen. By February, I had one follower, Christen, and I cannot tell you how thrilled to have an audience who are actively reading my stories, participating in my contests, and most importantly, leaving comments!

And now, let me introduce my first blog entry entitled Julie and Julia!

I was inspired to start a blog many months ago after watching "Julie and Julia" at the theater; in fact, I turned to my fiance and fellow pet sitting partner, Amos, and announced that I was going to start a pet sitting blog that would eventually make me as well-known as Julia Child and Julie Powell. I think it's a longshot to become rich and famous from blogging, but if I could attract an audience of readers who love pets as much as I do, then I will consider myself lucky.

Ever since I walked away from 16 years of teaching in the summer of 2006 in order to focus on my business, Teacher's Pet Sitting Service,I've been quite entertained by both the pets and their owners and I feel I have enough wonderful stories to last a lifetime so I will write them down, one day at a time, and I hope you will enjoy them all.

Thanks for reading,
April

  1. So neat how you started! And it's growing and growing and growing. You even had an article in The Hippo, which was where I first heard about you. Then, it was just luck that I bumped into Amos and Daisy. Just Great!!

  5. I'm sure you have enough interesting stories for a lot of blogging. Plus, blogging sort of creates its own posts sometimes. I know I haven't gotten to everything that I've got planned because something happening in the blogging world comes up.

I don't know about getting famous but I do know that animal blogosphere is the friendliest one anywhere.

  7. Sometimes I go back and read my early blog posts. I'm the only one who has read them. I only had one person who occasionally read my posts, but she encouraged me to keep going. I'm glad she did. I've met some good people and learned a lot.

I'm thinkin that I'll just forget giving my mom that grrrreat new cow hoof and take her for a stroll too!!! That would make her very much happy... and I'll have plenty of time to chew the hoof. THANKS SOOOOO MUCH FOR THE GOOD SUGGESTION.
I would also like to say that Remington's comment is spot on!!!

English is not our language, so when we decided to start our blog we were afraid of the mistakes we could make and we explained that in one post. And our friends told us not to worry. We doggies Woof the same language so... good grammar was not an issue! Haaa!

When I am out on my pet sitting adventures I think about my blogging pals and try to decide what story you would like to read about and I start snapping pictures just for you!
