Ed the Basset Hound's Rescue Update

Ever since Ed got in the backseat of Officer Johanson's cruiser on Tuesday I have been keeping tabs on him and so far I know that Ed is recuperating at an undisclosed veterinary office and will remain there until he is strong enough to be placed at a local SPCA. Because this is a criminal case, the officer cannot disclose Ed's location and it breaks my heart because I don't want him to think I've abandoned him but I am sure he knows I'm thinking about him constantly!

According to the officer, Ed has been enjoying his time at the veterinarian's office and he is in good spirits! Isn't that wonderful? He has been eating, drinking, and sleeping in a warm and loving environment and I couldn't be happier about that but ....

I was not happy to hear that Ed must have bladder surgery before he can be placed in a new home! To be honest, it didn't surprise me that Ed had a bladder issue because he was peeing blood when I met him but I did not expect to hear that Ed will be put to sleep if the cost of the surgery (approximately $2,000) cannot be funded.

In my opinion, Tracy, Ed's former owner, should foot the bill for the surgery but if he is unable to do so then I would imagine that Ed's current vet or the SPCA will be accepting donations. However, I think all of Blogville could raise the money a lot sooner than anyone else could, don't you? If you are interested, I'd like to set up an "Ed Fund" and as soon as I find out how soon Ed needs the surgery I will get his funding started so please stay tuned!

  2. Oh YES! Please keep us as posted as the officials will allow you to.

I think this Tracy should be FORCED to either PAY UP or.. give 2,000 hours of Dawg related community service.

  3. Oh, wow, we will be thinking of this cutie as he goes through his ordeal. Thankfully, even though he has to have surgery, I think the worst of it is over..

  4. Oh I'm glad the ex-owner of Ed is going to be prosecuted. No-one should get away with abusing animals in this day and age really!!

Me and Charlie have everything crossed for Ed and his surgery!! We hope that monies will be raised and found to help him with the surgery. I would wish for the surgery to go ahead and the monies to be sorted later though. I would hope that common sense and ethics will allow the surgery to go through first rather than wait for the monies first. Good luck sweet Ed!!! I'm just glad you will be at the end of Ed's ordeal to take him home with you!! Take care

  8. That is a great idea... Since that is what our non profit does... I would suggest getting together with the vet and having them take the donations over the phone... Some people are leary about just sending money online. If you do it through a vet, you may get more money. Please keep us updated on this guy!!!!! I do have a soft spot for those bassets!!!

  11. I'm sure we could all help out - I am surprised that they aren't getting his former owner to pay the cost of rehabilitating him. We will keep him in our prayers.

  12. Glad to hear Ed is getting better, but the news about the bladder problem really got me worried. He should really get operated fast... I hope the former owner will pay the bill or that the money could be raised on time...

    Have a merry Christmas!

  13. I am really worried about Ed's bladder issue too and I have a feeling that either he has a bladder stone or the fact that he has been peeing blood is the result of malnourishment. One of our contacts owns the animal emergency clinic who stated he could perform the surgery for $800 and do an ultrasound for free so I am leaving a message with the police about this great information! Paws crossed that Ed gets the surgery asap!

  16. That's great news about the emergency vet you know doing it for $800 and the free ultrasound! I wish I knew somebody like that for Riley's hip and knee surgery! I hope poor Ed feels lots better soon!
